Powder cladding makes repairs affordable

More powerful! Tougher! Simply better! These keywords of our modern life and world apply not only to us but also to the complex products with which we work and live. As a result, nowadays materials and components quickly come to the limits of their capabilities, meaning that damage is only a matter of time. Novel and significantly better materials are required so that the properties of a work piece can meet these ever increasing requirements. We therefore provide in the form of laser cladding a new process that is ideally suited both in manufacturing and also in the increasingly affordable area of servicing and repair!

Sustainability by repairing instead of replacing

Here we open the formerly dormant area of the renewal of work pieces through the use of laser cladding with powder. The refurbishing of worn components to make them as good as new saves you time and conserves your resources. In cladding the base material and a powder are melted and combined by the laser beam. This restoration of the functionality of the surfaces lends the components more resistance and hence increases their durability even up to the level of quality of a new item. This makes this process especially economical and clean while reducing the amount of post-working required to a minimum. Efficiency and cost-effectiveness are thus now conquering an area that had been determined up to now by the expensive replacement of defective parts.

Laser cladding with powder, the universal solution

Laser cladding with powder additives offers you the optimal solution, because it can be used primarily for the modification and optimisation of components as well in addition to servicing. Through the application of layers to protect against corrosion and wear, this process produces a pore- and crack-free layer of the very best quality with a low degree of mixing and an extremely small zone that is affected by the heat used.

Additive production of new parts

As in many other areas in everyday life, the use of simple but versatile structures leads to success in manufacturing as well; for example, as in the field of the “additive production” of new parts. To take the example of engine building, sealing rings are welded on so as to minimise the proportion of conventional CNC machining when using materials that are very difficult to cut. The properties of the work piece are therefore specifically tailored to the requirements and an elaborate new development of the work piece is often not required any longer. Depending on the amount of precision required for the parts to be machined, CNC machines are often used in addition to robotic units when working with laser cladding with powder.

Can be used fully automatically in industrial applications

Laser cladding with powder has in the meantime been mainly used in a fully automated way in the sectors of tool and mould making. These branches of industry use the process, for example, to apply a hard and extremely hard-wearing functional layer onto a softer and more cost-effective base material. Since the powder can be applied without regard to the direction, the process is highly suited for automation with the support of CAD/CAM systems.
