Review of the Maccabi Games

The 14th European Maccabi Games took place in Berlin this August.

This is the first time that Berlin has hosted Europe’s largest Jewish athletic event. The significance of this choice of venue is additionally underscored by the fact that the games took place almost exactly 70 years after the end of the Holocaust and 50 years after Germany and Israel initiated diplomatic relations.

In a sense, Maccabi has thus returned to its roots: this Jewish sports movement originated in Central and Eastern Europe in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, partly in response to the spread of anti-Semitism.

Right from the start and continuing all the way through to the joyous closing ceremony, the upbeat message and relaxed, friendly atmosphere of the games far exceeded the expectations and hopes of the organizers, participants, and spectators.

We were also privileged to join in the boundless vitality and positive spirit of the games and support the official awards ceremony by engraving the medals for the athletes and their prominent mentors.

Not only the nearly 2300 participants, but also Israel’s Vice Prime Minister Silvan Shalom and German President Joachim Gauck received medals that we personalized on-site using an MAG engraving laser.

We are proud to have contributed our expertise and skill to this international sporting event, thus helping to promote international understanding and sharing.
